The Southcott Stroll
Passing
the Hare Inn on your right, turn right into Southcourt Avenue and, within a few
yards, take the path on your left alongside number 60. On reaching the road,
Rock Lane, take the left-hand path between numbers 40 and 41. Cross over the
next road, Grasmere Way, and continue on the tarmac path up a slight incline and
over the next road, passing bungalow number 290 on your right.
The path then becomes hard shingle. Take the second right,
onto the tarmac path, keeping the lamp-post on your right. This brings you out
into Coniston Road facing number 29. Continue straight on between numbers 29 and
31, keeping to the tarmac path and ignoring all cement paths leading off. At the
next junction, by lamp-post number 6, turn right, and on reaching the open green
on the left, turn immediately right on to the road. Go straight over and between
numbers 109 and 111. At the next T-junction, turn right, following the path
round to the left and, where the path forks, continue to the right to bring you
out to another very large open green with an ice-cream stop on your right!
Cross
over the small car-park area, keeping the Southcott Village Residents’
Association Community Centre on your right, and take the tarmac path at the top
left of the car park. At the junction, facing a bungalow, turn right and follow
the path around the left-hand side of the green. Turn left at the end of the
fences - about 20 yards short of the road.
Wide tree-lined paths
make this an
easy
and attractive walk.
At the next open green, follow the path to the top right-hand
corner ignoring all right-hand paths until you reach a pond. Just past the pond,
at lamp-post number R56, turn right passing flats in Grasmere Way on your left.
Cross straight over at the road and continue on, passing the post-box on your
right. At the next T-junction, by lamp-post R65, turn right. Shortly, at another
T-junction, by lamp-post R70, turn left. At lamp-post R68, do not follow the
path to the right but go straight over, keeping the fence panels on your right.
At
the next junction, at the end of a conifer hedge on your right, take the
slab-paved path on your left. Keep to the left and ignore any paths leading off
to the right until you reach the road, Grasmere way. Here the path continues
over the road but slightly to the left. It's now straight on to Southcourt
Avenue, following the road round to the right and then left back to the Hare
Inn.
